Willow splints
Necessary for straw weaving
Willow splints for straw sewing are a type of natural willow tape obtained by manual willow stripping, i.e. carving and dividing into thinner stripes. It is obtained manually by Basketry Master Mikołaj – see the video!
You can use these natural and beautiful light-coloured splints to weave using the straw sewing technique.
Remember: before weaving, splints must be soaked in water.
See how to thread the splint through the basketry needle.
One coil is enough to make a basket using the straw sewing technique.
You can also buy basketry tools (needles), an apron to wear while weaving, and other materials, such as straw or willow tape.
